Like many good stories, this one starts with two friends. They’re both from Estonia. Taavet, who was the first employee at Skype, lived in London but got paid in euros. Kristo worked for Deloitte, also lived in London, and got paid in pounds. But he had a mortgage in euros back in Estonia. They both moved their money with their banks — which had expensive fees and bad exchange rates. They knew there had to be a better way. So they put their heads together and invented a beautifully simple workaround. Each month, they looked up the real exchange rate on Reuters. Taavet put his euros into Kristo’s Estonian bank account, and Kristo topped up Taavet’s UK account with his pounds. Both got the currency they needed almost instantly, and neither paid an extra cent on bad exchange rates or unreasonable charges. There was no waiting, no stress, and no extra cost. ‘There must be others like us…’ they thought. So they started a company, called it TransferWise, and hired a team to build the best way to send money between countries. As we grew, we realised that people needed more than just money transfers. So we added a multi-currency account, a debit card, and a business account, and changed our name to Wise. Our name may have changed, but the heart of what we do is always the same: helping people manage their money internationally more cheaply, quickly, and transparently. Over 10 million people now trust us to move more than £5 billion every month, which saves them £3 million in bank fees every day. With the Wise account, they hold balances in over 55 currencies, and use our debit card to shop and spend while abroad. Toby is better than bookmarks, it levels up your Chrome browser. Toby is a visual workspace that lives on every new tab. Add new tabs by dragging and dropping your browser tabs into collections, or save a whole session in just one-click. It can become difficult to find your favorites among a growing collection, no matter how organized you are. With our Starred Collection feature, Toby gives you quick access to the tabs that bring you the most joy—or that are the most imperative to your job. All you have to do is star any collection in Toby by opening the collection's menu and selecting “star.” These collections will then appear in the new Star section on the top navigation bar. You can always remove a collection from the Star section by unstarring it (collection menu -> “unstar”), but there is no limit to the number of collections you can star! Starred Collections isn’t the only way we’ve improved your ability to organize your collections. We’ve also added a new sorting option. You now have a new dropdown in the top navigation bar with five options: Drag & Drop, Alphabetical, Starred to Top, Date Created, and Last Modified. You can also reverse the order by using the arrow on the right side of the drop-down menu. In 2020, we spent a lot of time improving our customer support as well as the stability and reliability of Toby. We introduced new features, like import/export and a new admin dashboard. Programs on CD-ROM were the big hit in 1995. Unfortunately also for thieves who picked the expensive CDs from the presentation computers at the then popular CeBit IT trade show. It was this situation, when our today's managing director came up with the idea, that started it all: "Why not copy the CD-ROM to the hard disk and make Windows believe that this copy were a CD drive." Virtual CD, the CD drive emulator, was born. The program created a new genre and became a bestseller. But this was just the start: "If we can virtualize CD-ROMs, why not virtualize the graphics card, too?!". Since the market did not offer anything suitable for us, we decided to make a text snippet program on our own, which later evolved into the typing productivity solution "PhraseExpress", now used by well-known companies around the globe. PhraseExpress is a text expander software, that manages frequently used text templates for insertion into any program. The template manager organizes text templates in multiple languages or customizable categories. Phrases can be triggered from the snippet menu, by hotkey or with autotext shortcuts. The autotext software is available for Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac and iPhone/iPad. Boilerplate templates are customizable with user input before insertion and be shared in the cloud or in the local network by a Microsoft SQL or PhraseExpress Server.
